Shabnam a Pakistani blockbuster film star was   born  on  17 August 1942 in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Her father's name was Nani Basak who by profession was a referee of football. Shabnam’s real name was jharna. She called Shabnam after joining the film industry.  She had a sister who was a singer. Shabnam was very courageous and valiant in nature. From childhood, she was doing practice dancing. Jharna played the role of supporting dancer in a movie.    From then  on, she  made her   debut in the arts. A Pakistan most popular and successful film star Waheed Murad introduced her to the  Pakistani film industry by offering him a chance in a  Pakistani film Samandar was released in 1968. Then she shifted to West Pakistan.  She was continuously engaged in this field till the 1990s in Pakistan. She remained a leading actress in Pakistani movies for about three decades since 1968.

SHABNAM PASKISTNI ACTRESS FAMILY AND PRIVATE LIFE

When Shabnam was 22 years old. She got entered practical life when married to Robin Ghosh in 1966. Her husband was a music composer. She had a son Ronnie Ghosh. In 2016, Robin Ghosh passed away due to heart failure in Dhaka, Bangladesh. She had a better understanding of Robin Ghosh and were leaving joyful marital life with her husband. This superstar Pakistani actress Shabnam remarked in an interview that Robin was a loving and caring husband. She further added That her life partner had never interfered in her matters regarding movie making and never raised any objection to her late coming from work to home. She told that Robin Ghosh proposed when they both came to play cricket in Lahore. she accepted that proposal and tied the knot of life with him.  When she left the film industry, then devoted her remaining life to the service of her old parents and husband till their last breath. After losing her husband and other elders, now she is leaving as a housewife in Dhaka, Bangladesh.  



CAREER

Initially, Jharna appeared as a dancer in two movies in Bangladesh. First in "Ei Desh Tomar Amar".  and secondly in "Rajdhanir Bukey".. The viewers were much inspired by this charming dancer and demanded that Shabnam or jharna may be cast as a heroine in the movie. On the rising demand of the public, she was given a role in a Bangali film Harano Din. She came Pakistan after working in Pakistani film Chanda in 1962, which was directed by Ehtesham. The music of this movie was composed by her own husband Robin Ghosh. The film was a hit and she came to the list of Pakistani hit actresses. A series of her movies started in Pakistan. Tons of her films were super hit till the 1970s, she rose to the level of such fame that every Pakistani became his fan. Her character in movies was mostly romantic.

When the Bangladesh Liberation war came to an end. She desired to visit her homeland Bangladesh but to get Bangladeshi Visa she required a no-objection certificate. The Foreign Ministry of Pakistan would not give her a visa, for which she struggled 02 years and eventually got a visa. She promised her fans in Pakistan that she would back after inquire after her parents.

 

She resided in London since 1987 and left Pakistan completely in The 1990s. She retired from the Pakistani film industry with great honor after her super hit movie Aeena, and went Bangladesh in 1997. She explained that she left the film industry because of her age and to look after her old parents and husband. After moving to her homeland she performed the last movie Amma Jan in Bangladesh in 1999 which was also hit.

 

AWARDS AND RECOGNITION

1.    In 2012, Jharna/Shabnam along with her husband Robin Gosh were called to Pakistan to attend an award ceremony where they both were awarded lifetime achievement award by the Pakistani government. The show was hosted by prominent host BushraAnsari. Notable personalities were attending the show, particularly the former prime minister Yousaf Raza Gillani. Live interviews of Shabnam and Robin Gosh were showed in that show.

2.    She won Nigar awards 13 times which is a record in Pakistan. No actor/actress has won so many such awards.

            Jharna acted in total of 170 movies including 152 Urdu, 14 Bengali, and 4 Punjabi films.
