Hamza baba full name was Ameer Hamza. He belongs to the cast of shinwari in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. That’s why he was called Ameer hamza shinwar. He is commonly known as hamza baba in KP. Hamza baba was born in 1907 in landi kotal, Khyber agency, Indo-Pak sub-continent. His father's name was Bameer Khan. He was Urdu and Pashto poet and wrote bundles of poems in Urdu and Pashto.

Education and life:

Before discussing hamza baba poetry let have a glance at his education and life. When Ameer Hamza grew up and became able to learn. He got admitted to Islamia Collegiate School in class 5th, which still exist in Islamia College Peshawar. When he was reading in primary education, he started poetry in the Urdu language. School teachers were also aware of his artistic skills. One of his teachers Khwaja Syed Abul Sattar Shah said him to write in Pashto, you will get a great name. He didn’t agree heartedly but in the honor of his teacher, he started to write in Pashto and became a Pashto poet also. 

He was employed in Railway but his income was not sufficient for his livelihood. Resultantly, he resigned and went to Bombay to join the film industry but didn’t succeed. On the way back to Ajmer Sharif (India) he saw a person namely Israr Ahmad who had flowers and singing. To listen to him he inspired and started literature. In an interview, Hamza baba said that he was greatly inspired by Mirza Khan Ansari and Khushal Khan Khattak. He explained that Mirza Khan Ansari was a Sufi poet and his thoughts were resembling him.  

The books of Ameer Hamza Shinwari are still taught at the University of Peshawar in Master classes. Several students of PH.D wrote a thesis on him. Hamza baba ghazal is telecasted by PTV and liked by the people. He is a remarkable figure for Pashto literature. He established Khyber School of thoughts in Pashto literature. Many popular poets of the Pashto language follow his school of thought. Hamza baba contributed greatly to radio Pakistan and wrote about 200 plays for radio. His articles are published in different newspapers in Pakistan including critical articles and research work.
